Internal Eclipse (Part 1 of the UNITY Series)

Size: 8 × 8 × 8 in.

Media: Acrylic on plexiglass

Year: 2022

The one thing that has always anchored my life has been my artistic passion, which is exemplified in “Internal Eclipse.” In my installation, I intend each panel to represent the six universal emotions as identified by Paul Eckman: joy, disgust, fear, sadness, anger, and surprise.

Through the use of unconventional textures for the bottom of the shoe and the cap of the glass paint, I capture the irregular and ironic nature of my emotions. For instance, joy would be unrecognizable without sadness, thus, I do not limit myself to one color.

The chrome pendulum in the middle represents my inner eclipse: how my passion for art holds all of my conflicting and chaotic emotions together, allowing me to focus on art even when I feel out of control. Art is a place where I find comfort and purpose; it is what makes up who I am. I hope to inspire others to find their own pendulums that serve as a driving force in their lives.
