My installation “Connecting Friendships” takes symbols and makes them a focal point. The materials include a cup from my first tea party in preschool to the pet unicorn I brought for show-and-tell. These items represent the precious connections fostered by the sharing of gum, which symbolizes communion. The blooming gum in the center represents my desire to branch out and become the friend I needed in my freshman year of high school. This installation summons nostalgia, recalling untouched memories that shape who we are today. By directing attention to past memories, this artwork reveals the deeper meanings of mundane objects in a web-like fashion, calling for viewers to do the same in their own lives.
